Chelsea sold Enzo Fernandez to Man City this summer. It was a move that most fans understood, even if many weren’t happy with it.
The Argentine wanted to go, and he also didn’t seem to fit into Chelsea’s new formation. Even in the old formation, it always felt hard to get him into a side with Cole Palmer at the same time. Former Blue Jason Cundy has spoken to Football.London about what the Blues need to do to turn this situation into an upgrade.
Enzo had no place in Chelsea team – but they’ve yet to find someone better

“Enzo in this shape, I couldn’t find a place for him in this team. So I understand why the club decided to move him on, and why he wanted to leave,” Cundy said in a chat to Football.London.
“In a 3-4-3, which predominantly he has played so far, I think we need a high-energy, physical player that can get around the pitch. Enzo has got a lot of qualities, but he can’t get around the pitch.
“One thing he lacks is that 10-yard speed, he can’t burst. He’s got a lot of things that are great about his game but he doesn’t have that energy where he can squeeze a gap quickly, five or 10 yards.
“I’ve seen [Romeo] Lavia do that but there’s a concern about his history with injuries, I’m not sure Reece [James] has got that under his bonnet either, Moises [Caicedo] is injured.”
Even when Caicedo is back, it feels we need another similar midfield to him to complete the squad.

Chelsea could welcome a full four starts back into the team after the international break, and everyone is hoping that turns things around after a negative spell.
These injuries are among the excuses given for why Chelsea have been so poor at defending this season, but there’s only so much you can believe that.
