Nizaar Kinsella of the BBC today has an interesting update on Chelsea’s transfer plans in defence.
The Blues have a host of central defenders on the books already, and they “intend to strengthen,” with “at least one centre back to arrive.”
That means sales are guaranteed, and once again it looks like poor Trevoh Chalobah is top of the list being hawked around, for about the 5th year running.
Chelsea asking too much for Como – for now

Kinsella says that academy product Chalobah is “attracting interest from Serie A side Como,” who are managed by Cesc Fabregas and qualified for the Champions League after a superb season. Chalobah is “open to the move,” but Chelsea’s asking price is “deterring the Italians from making a formal offer.”
For now, this one looks like a wait and see – Como may sell a player and end up with more budget, or perhaps Chelsea will lower their asking price. The Blues could also end up selling other defenders and then be content to keep Chalobah aorund.
In other news…
Another defender who could go is Malo Gusto – he’s been linked with Man City, but Chelsea are putting a monster valuation on him that could make things difficult.
Chelsea have also been linked with a left back option – Gabriel Gudmundsson is a player we haven’t heard much about until this week, but the interest sounds genuine.
