Chelsea have just announced that Pedro Neto has extended his contract at the club until 2032.
The winger, who was signed from Wolves two years ago, has an impressive 40 G/A in 108 appearances for Chelsea. He wasn’t close to the end of his last deal, but the Blues have continued their policy of giving pay rises and new deals to players who are impressing regularly in the first team.
Neto back to key player after doubts about his future
Neto has been one of the big winners of the Xabi Alonso era so far. There were strong rumours that he would leave in the summer, with Saudi clubs and Manchester City both linked. It really looked like he would go, and not many Chelsea fans would have complained after an up and down first two years at the club.
However he’s been a key player as a right wing back for Alonso, and his goal in midweek was hopefully the first of more to come.
He has his flaws, but he’s got plenty of top qualities too, and locking him down on a new deal is a sensible move that should help improve the rising tide of morale in the dressing room.
