Thomas Tuchel has always been a big Reece James fan, and he’s been speaking about the full back after England’s win over Norway.

Thomas Tuchel has been picking Reece James for England whenever possible at the World Cup, and he used the Chelsea right back as a sub last night.

James was used in central midfield to start with, but looked far better when switched to his usual right back role, where he did a great job shutting down Antonio Nusa.

“[The subs were] very good. Reece James was excellent. Morgan Rogers was fantastic. [Eberechi Eze] grew into the game. Djed [Spence] grew into the game. Full credit to them, but overall we got lucky today,” the England manager said after the narrow win over Norway.

“It’s about the score, but it’s also about quality. We will get better. We need to get better. Now is all about the celebration. Take it all in. We have three days. We need everything. We need a better performance.”

Fit James could help England reach their top level

One thing that will help them with a “better performance” is having James fit to start the game. The way things are trending, that certainly seems possible. Having him at right back is a huge boost for the Three Lions. He and Bukayo Saka make a far more threatening pair down the right than the alternatives.

In other news…

Fabrizio Romano is still pushing the story about potential transfer interest in Alejandro Garnacho, and has even gone as far as naming one of the interested clubs.

Chelsea are very strongly considering a move for midfielder Alex Scott, according to our writer Simon Phillips.
