Chelsea are being told to consider a formation change to try and get Estevao into the team, but it’s not that simple.

Some of the chat about Estevao Willian’s unhappiness at a lack of game time has led to suggestions that Chelsea should move away from their current formation, a sort of 343 which means there’s no room for the Brazilian in the starting team.
Nizaar Kinsella sees the logic in a change which takes the team from five “natural defenders” for four, but doesn’t think it’s likely:
“It is more likely Chelsea will try to make it work with Moises Caicedo, who has arguably been their most important player over the past two seasons, before abandoning current plans.”
Alonso must stay patient with favoured system for now

The formation change has more to it than just keeping Estevao happy. It’s also the one button that fans always want to be pressed when results aren’t good. That’s especially true when it’s a back five, which feels inherently a more defensive setup just because of the personnel used, even though that’s not always reflected on the field.
We would like to see summer signing Marco Palestra back fit and playing at wing back before we make any rash decisions to change systems already.
In other news…
The good news is that Estevao is apparently more willing to be patient than some reports are giving him credit for, taking the pressure down a little.
Alex Scott is a top midfielder option for Chelsea – but they won’t be signing him in January. Bournemouth have made it clear he’s not for sale.
