Chelsea are getting their summer plans sorted, and one big question is over striker Emmanuel Emegha.

Chelsea have not made a new signing yet this summer, but there’s a strong selection of players already signed up or returning from loan for Xabi Alonso to think about adding to his squad next season.

Simon Johnson wrote a really good piece for the Athletic looking at each of them, and giving a verdict on where they would each end up. We were particularly interested in his view on Emmanuel Emegha.

The striker’s move to Chelsea from sister club Strasbourg was announced as far back as September. At the time, it was assumed he was coming in as Joao Pedro’s backup. But a shocking season of injury for the striker seems to have changed views on him.

Johnson now has him down as someone who will be loaned out, with his logic being that Nicolas Jackson will be brought back into the squad instead.

That one could really go either way – but we’re certainly not as confident as we were 6 months ago that Emegha will be in our squad to kick off the season when August comes around.

In other news…

Estevao’s hamstring injury came at the worst possible time for him, and he’s now spoken a little about how emotionally devastating it was for him.

Valentin Barco had a good game for Argentina last night – and many are expecting him to join Chelsea next summer.
