Kieran Gill of the Daily Mail is doing God’s work putting together Chelsea news while everyone is focused on the World Cup. This week he’s able to shoot down a few rumours about the Marc Cucurella move to Real Madrid.
Chelsea content with Cucurella deal after big sale

First up, the whispers from Spain that new manager Xabi Alonso only found about the sale via social media are debunked.
Then there’s Chelsea’s take on the deal – the club are said to be “pleased with the overall outcome” of their starting left back’s departure, because they got good money for him. Cucurella had told them he wanted to leave, and they are pleased with his backup Jorrel Hato’s progress.
Their plan is to “reinvest and strengthen” with the money they got.
We’re not sure we’ll see them reinvest 100% of that €52m-odd in a new left back. But they could potentially get someone even better for less, if they’re smart about it.
All eyes are now on the much maligned sporting directors.
In other news…
Chelsea are being linked with Adam Wharton of Crystal Palace this week, but it’s going to be a very difficult and expensive deal to pull off.
Gianfranco Zola says he’s excited to see what Xabi Alonso can bring to Chelsea – but he’s also predicted a “challenging” time for the new coach.
