Joao Pedro was the man of the match in today’s Chelsea win over Brighton, but there was another player getting a lot of attention.
Emi Martinez was only announced as a Chelsea player shortly before the game, but he still was dropped straight into the starting lineup. He did well, despite some bad team defending meaning the Blues conceded 3 goals by the end. Post game, JP was asked about his new teammate.
Joao Pedro on how Chelsea squad felt when Emi Martinez walked in

“I think everyone knows his quality, he came to help us. You could see today, he’s a special player, a special keeper, he has everything to help us through this season,” the striker said to Sky Sports.
Martinez himself said that he was looking forward to the challenge of playing at Chelsea and trying to compete for the title.
If we want to win the title, the first thing to fix is the defence. We’re now 18 league games without a clean sheet, and you won’t get far with stats like that.
