We don’t always love it when John Terry starts speaking his mind, but when it comes to talking about defending in a Chelsea context, there’s nobody we’d rather hear from.
Saturday’s draw with Hull City saw the Blues drop some points from nowhere, with the away team’s first goal some of the worst defending we’ve seen in a while. There were multiple things that went wrong, as JT pointed out on his channel.
JT slams soft Chelsea defending
“From a defensive point of view Gusto’s got to be stronger and then more importantly has got to stop the cross if you do lose the first one,” the former captain said.
“The second one if it does go over Hato’s head, very similar to Gusto, I want to see last ditch, throw all your body in front of that to do everything you can. Yes it might still go in but still as a supporter and a ex-player, this is what I want to see. This is defending.”
Even that ignores perhaps the most criminal part of all – Wesley Fofana not challenging for the ball.
This has to change, and it has to change fast.
