Rodri’s move from Man City to Barcelona is done, and that’s kept the dying embers of the Enzo Fernandez transfer rumours alive.
City have been linked to him all summer, but Chelsea’s asking price of £120m has put them off. The Blues made it known that last Friday was a “deadline” for any offers, but that doesn’t seem to have put City off.
Ben Jacob’s report today claims that the Cityzens are “prepared to bid” for the Argentine, as they look to sign two midfielders between now and the end of the window.
Man City will bid for Enzo – but may find price too high
While it’s true that Chelsea will obviously consider massive offers despite the passing of their self-imposed deadline, the problem for City now is that the Blues will want even more than the £120m they asked for before.
If Chelsea sell the former Benfica man, thery’re the ones who are then left scrambling for a midfielder before the deadline. They’re the ones who will end up overpaying, and they will want City to be the ones to bear that cost.
Whatever happens, it does seem possible there are some major fireworks in the market to come.
Manchester City have several midfield options and are expected to sign two between now and the end of the window.
