Pedro Neto has just started his third season at Chelsea, and due to the phenomenal turnover of players at the club in recent years, he’s already one of the longest tenured members of the staff.
He’s been through a lot already, and has seen managers come and go, with varying levels of success. Speaking after the win over Leeds in the cup in midweek, the Portugal international tried to explain why things had changed so dramatically this summer after the misery of the first half of 2026.
Neto on manager’s impact on Chelsea’s mood
“I think we learned a little bit from what happened last season,” Neto said in quotes on the club’s official website.
“The boss brought a little bit of freshness in that level and, as you can see, everyone is playing with a smile on their face. Even in difficult situations, we think we can turn it around with the quality of the players that we have.
That’s really what has made an immediate impression. It will take a while for Alonso to really get his message across, to build the new winning culture, to get the tactics right and to know every player in the squad’s strengths and weaknesses.
But what he has been able to do instantly is improve the mood and the feeling around the place. When you have players this good at your disposal, sometimes that the most important thing to getting results on the right track again.
