The deal for Chelsea to sign Pep Chavarria from Rayo Vallecano has been severely dragging on, but it looks like we’re into the final stages now.
Both Fabrizio Romano and Ben Jacobs popped up this morning with very positive updates on the defender’s move. It doesn’t yet have the famous “here we go” stamp of approval from Romano, but feels like it’s just one step away. “Agreement close,” claims Jacobs.
Chavarria ready for green light to complete medical
Both Romano and Jacobs claim it’s going to be a €19m fixed fee for the left back, with “add ons being clarified.” We wouldn’t expect them to end up totally more than a few million. After that the Spaniard will get the “green light to travel,” and he will presumably complete his medical and signing in the UK.
Then it’s a dash out to Hong Kong to join up with his new teammates – although if the move continues to be held up, he may just get to work at Cobham with some of the returning World Cup players rather than go around the world twice in short order.
