Our writer Simon Phillips always brings us the news he gets, no matter how strange it is. This latest piece had even him scratching his head.
His “top source” sent him a message regarding Chelsea sister club Strasbourg’s search for a new manager. Gary O’Neil has dipped to take over at Ipswich, and now the French side are back to the drawing board.
According to Phillips’ source, “Strasbourg want Filipe Luis,” the up and coming Brazilian coach who has just departed Flamengo after an impressive spell there.
Luis was one of the names linked with Chelsea before the Blues appointed Xabi Alonso. The Brazilian now appears to already be in place to take over at Monaco.
Strasbourg’s top target just too ambitious

Unfortunately, while we’re sure Luis would be by far Strasbourg’s top target, it’s too late for that. Monaco are just a bigger and better project than the Alsatians, who are also a selling club, just a little further down the food chain.
You can see from how easily O’Neil was persuaded to leave that it’s position that is more tempting as a temporary rehabilitation than a long term destination. Luis is a rising star
If anything, this just makes it sound like Phillips’ source hasn’t been paying much attention to French football news lately.
In other news…
There’s one huge deal in the pipeline for Chelsea this summer – the sale of Enzo Fernandez. Phillips had some pretty interesting updates on that front too.
Chelsea are digging in for a legal battle with Man City over Enzo Maresca as Citizens try to appoint the former Blues boss as their new coach.
