Xabi Alonso is speaking after Chelsea’s defeat against Arsenal, and he had some interesting things to say about the course of a fascinating game.
Chelsea started with an early goal which should have set them up nicely, but their lack of midfield control cost them the game in the end.
Blues beaten by better Arsenal

“It was a game with different momentums, different stages,” Alonso concluded,
“I think we started the game well and the next 15 minutes, they were really pushing us hard. We were defending low and struggled to get the ball. Those 15 minutes were hard and we had to suffer.
“At half-time, we spoke. It was a really close and intense game and we needed a high level of concentration not to give them any advantage. The second goal, we could have done better. It’s part of the game, we need to accept. They are a top side and they push you to the limits.”
It’s a similar take to what we’d imagine most Chelsea fans have. It was close, and we did well – but we actually were still far from being a really coherent team, especially in the second half. The difference now is those moments of defending which Arsenal get right and we get wrong.
