Antonio Conte has reaffirmed his commitment to Chelsea after the Blues defeated Manchester United at Wembley to win the FA Cup.
Conte admitted prior to the game that he could be sacked even if he won the competition. As he strolled around the Wembley pitch, doused in champagne, trophy in hand, it’s hard to believe that his future at the club is in serious doubt.
However, though the FA Cup is great to win, it doesn’t write-off a season riddled with failure, and that’s exactly why his head’s on the chopping block.
Ultimately, it’s Roman Abramovich who will have the final word. He’ll speak with his advisors before coming to a final decision on whether or not to allow Conte to see out the remainder of his contract.
Conte’s position is clear – he wants to stay. Following the game, the Italian reiterated this, insisting that, despite the constant speculation surrounding his future, he is committed to the club.
The Daily Mail quote Conte saying:
“I have a contract and I’m committed to this club, despite a lot of speculation. One day I had the possibility to go to the national team, one day this team, one day another important team. In every press conference I always say I’m committed to this club, to respect my contract.”
