Callum Hudson-Odoi’s absence from Chelsea starting eleven against Fulham came as somewhat of a surprise. It left many fans fuming, while others made peace with the winger-duo of Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech.

The 75th minute saw Hudson-Odoi replace Ziyech, who had a poor game by his standards until then. The 20-year-old highly-rated winger made an instant impact after being heavily involved in the build-up to Mason Mount’s winner in the 78th minute.

His quarter-hour cameo turned out to be fruitful and possibly holds more highlights than what many Chelsea players could muster out the whole match – most notably his two sublime over-the-top passes to Timo Werner from the far right-wing by the touchline, which may have well put the Blues three goals ahead by the end of the match.

Having been in fantastic form for Chelsea, he was expected to appear among the attacking half of the team. But Lampard explained his choices to leave out the England international, saying it was a hard decision with the Leicester City encounter in mind.

He said to chelseafc.com:

“I had Leicester in mind. Callum is very exciting at the minute. He’s approaching it all the right way and he’ll get many many minutes.”
