With the World Cup about to kick off, attentions are turning to North America for the next few weeks.
But that doesn’t mean things are going quiet at Chelsea – quite the opposite. Football.London has pointed out that four players in particular playing for their country need to impress Xabi Alonso.
Four players looking to impress Alonso with World Cup minutes
Malo Gusto is one – he’s going to be France’s backup right back but should pick up a fair few minutes. Most Chelsea fans think they’ve seen enough, and he will have to convince Alonso he’s got more to give.
Then there’s Mamadou Sarr – he’s likely to be loaned out if he can’t impress enough with Senegal to show he deserves a first team spot at Chelsea next season.
Up next is Pedro Neto. He’s another talent who has frustrated Chelsea fans, and will need to show Alonso he’s got a higher ceiling than what he showed this season just gone.
Finally Kendry Paez – perhaps the biggest lost cause of all. Even if he plays regularly for Ecuador, it’s hard to see how he escapes another loan. But still, just forcing his way into Alonso’s consciousness with some good showings for his country would be a success.
In other news…
Xabi Alonso transformed Bayer Leverkusen into a winning machine, and that was in part because he requested this from his players.
Alonso had a big influence on things when he was at Leverkusen, and now will hope to do the same in shaping his squad at Chelsea.
