Chelsea forced to issue public apology to Chinese people

Kenedy

Chelsea sent Kenedy home from their pre-season tour of Asia.

Chelsea have been forced to issue a public apology to the people of China after Kenedy shared several offensive posts on Instagram.

As per the Daily Mail, the posts in question were both directly targeting Chinese people. The tabloid report that Kenedy wrote “Porra China”, which translates as “F*** China”, as well as posting a photo of a sleeping security guard, captioned “Acorda China Vacilao”, which means “Wake up China idiot” in Portuguese.

Chelsea were forced to post a lengthy apology on the official club website, condemning Kenedy’s actions and sincerely apologising to the Chinese people for any offence caused.

The club revealed in the statement that Kenedy had been strongly reprimanded and disciplined for his unacceptable behaviour, and insisted that there would not be a repeat of this incident in the future.

Kenedy is young and naive, but there is no place for these kind of discriminatory comments, especially when you are a high-profile figure.

Pre-season tours are designed for the club to connect with our fans overseas, and Kenedy may well have undone some of the hard work that Chelsea put in to further our fan-base in China.
