Cesar Azpilicueta has had an interesting chat with Nizaar Kinsella of the BBC, and in it he gave some thoughts on the current state of his former club.

“I left Chelsea, but Chelsea will always stay in my heart. I follow every game and I hope the club comes back to where it belongs,” Azpi said.

Things haven’t gone too well to start the season under his old friend Xabi Alonso, but the former defender is convinced they’ll turn it around.

“There are some very strong teams around and football sometimes needs a bit of time. You need connections, people playing together and understanding each other. I have confidence that [manager] Xabi [Alonso], the staff and the players will do good work. Hopefully they can bring a lot of happiness to the fans.”

“I will come back one day. I won’t be putting on my boots, though.”

We could do with him in the back line right now. We can’t wait to welcome a club legend back to the Bridge when the time is right.

In other news…

Alex Scott is turning into an absolute star – and Chelsea are “front of the queue” to sign him.

Alejandro Garnacho has moved to Aston Villa on loan and is finally getting some minutes, albeit in friendlies.

Chelsea’s priority in this break is to improve their defence, and some of the stats from the first 5 games of the season show just how bad things have got.
