Chelsea will continue to be linked with many different names over the course of this summer, as is always the case.
Not every name will have substance. Some might be PR or tactical moves from various parties, some noise might be agent driven for whatever reason, and rarely, said noise will lead to a new signing. Some of it only stays as agent or club contact and doesn’t move past that, most of it in fact.
With it being very quiet out there right now in terms of any solid news anywhere, we are having to dig deep in the realms of transfer news to bring a bit from the rumour mills.
Dusan Vlahovic and Mike Maignan are two familiar names linked with Chelsea a lot. Chelsea came close to signing Maginan last summer, and Vlahovic is linked every window.
Chelsea have allegedly held talks with the father of Vlahovic, according to reports in Italy.
Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport say Chelsea are one of a number of clubs who have made contact with Milos Vlahovic to discuss a possible move for his son, Dusan.
The 26-year-old Serbia international has spent the last five seasons at Juventus, who spent £66m to sign him from Fiorentina in 2021.
Vlahovic’s contract in Turin expires at the end of the month and while he is interested in extending his stay, other clubs have begun to circle.
It is claimed his father and agent Milos will hold one final ‘do-or-die’ meeting with Juventus chiefs to try and thrash out a new deal.
However, Milos is keeping his options open and has reportedly already held talks with Chelsea, Newcastle United, Barcelona and Bayern Munich.
Agent driven? Likely yes, in order to get a new contract where he is. Chelsea have had interest in Vlahovic before even quite recently, but he’s not a name I’ve been given for this window as of now at least.
Meanwhile, Chelsea have reportedly revived their interest in former transfer target Mike Maignan as they consider signing a new goalkeeper this summer.
Reports in Italy claim Maignan is once again eyeing a move away from Milan ahead of the summer transfer window following a frustrating season for the Italian giants.
But at this stage Chelsea are yet to turn their interest into an official approach and could wait until Alonso officially takes over to make a decision on the goalkeeper situation.
We’re definitely looking at new goalkeepers, and Robert Sanchez could go. But as with Vlahovic, Maignan is not a name I have yet been given for this summer. That could change quick, but part of the reason Chelsea didn’t sign him last summer was due to wage demands. So unless Chelsea or Maignan show more flexibility with that, then he wont be joining us any time soon.
