Chelsea have put a plan in place if Antonio Conte is to get the sack in the near future.
Spanish news outlet Sport report that ex-Barcelona manager Luis Enrique is the clear front runner for the Stamford Bridge post.
This is after Chelsea offered the 47-year-old a contract that would expire at the end of the 2019-20 season, as Sport reports.
Due to successive three-goal deficit defeats against Bournemouth and Watford, Conte’s been heavily linked with departing the club. Off the field tensions between the Italian and the Chelsea hierachy also hasn’t helped.
Background on Luis Enrique
With brief spells at Roma and Celta Vigo, Enrique put himself on the managerial centre stage at Barcelona.
The Spaniard who also used to play for the Catalans as a player, won the treble with the club in the 2014/15 season.
The following campaign, Enrique added to his CV, winning another La Liga and Copa del Rey title.
Sacking Conte may not be a popular choice, but a manager with the quality of Enrique would certainly soften the blow.
