Enzo Fernandez made it very clear that he wanted to leave Chelsea back in March. He spoke about how unhappy he was that Enzo Maresca had left, how uncertain he was about the project, and how much he wanted to live in Madrid.
The message was clear for all to see – as was the disrespect of Chelsea. But some fans remained in denial about his desire to leave, and his disgraceful behaviour, right up until he was holding up a Man City shirt with a big grin.

In a long push to leave, Fernandez apparently put in two separate written transfer requests from the midfielder, who shifted his focus to Man City once it became clear that Real Madrid weren’t interested.
Part of their case for why Enzo should be allowed to leave was that he no longer had any working relationship with his teammates. Whether that came from him or from them isn’t clear. But by the end, photos like the one at the top of this article show there was a frosty distance between them, even in training.
Law notes that not one current player wished Enzo well after his departure.
