World Cup fever may have taken the football world by the scruff of it’s neck in recent weeks, but the 2018/19 campaign is not a million miles away.
Chelsea will be hoping to improve on the shortfalls of the past campaign and force their way back into the top four. Failing to qualify for the Champions League in three out of four seasons would be a financial disaster. It is, quite frankly, not an option.
It remains unclear who will be in the Chelsea dugout come the opening fixture of next season. Antonio Conte’s future at the club remains in serious doubt, with Maurizio Sarri, Laurent Blanc and Luis Enrique all being linked with the managerial post in recent weeks.
Whoever it may be zipping up their Chelsea tracksuit on the opening day will undoubtedly be eager to find out who they’ll be locking horns with for the first three points on offer.
