Last night at the World Cup, Enzo Fernandez did what Enzo Fernandez does best. He popped up in the box to score a late goal in a big game.
For all his flaws, personal and professional, there’s no doubting he delivers in those moments. Chelsea need to hold on to him if they can, and all signs are pointing to him staying right now. His push to leave to join Real Madrid ended up leading the Spanish club to declare they wouldn’t sign him. So where next?
Chelsea in tricky situation after key man pushes to leave

Some have speculated that Enzo may now accept he’s got no chance of leaving, and could even sign a new contract. But as Cerys Jones of the Athletic pointed out, that’s not a great look for the club.
“If Chelsea were to give Enzo Fernandez an improved contract now, what message does that send? You can kick up a fuss and say you’re not being paid enough, and you can look at the exit, and then when you can’t get an exit, we’ll give in to what you’re asking,” she pointed out on the London is Blue podcast.
“It’s not really the message that they’re going to want to send.”
In other news…
Pep Chavarria will be coming to Chelsea this summer, it’s just a matter of time. The second bid from the Blues is in, and they’re creeping closer to Rayo Vallecano’s asking price.
Chelsea could still sell Enzo Fernandez this summer, despite Real Madrid’s very public claims they’re not interested.
