Chelsea forward Eden Hazard has admitted ‘he’s not selfish enough’ to win the Ballon d’Or and insists he is happy to be a team player.
In what’s been a frustrating season for Chelsea, Hazard has still been able to capture the excitement from Blues fans in scoring 16 goals this season as he still plays a valuable role for his team.
The 27-year-old insists that the Ballon d’Or has become an accolade for players that are selfish on the pitch, as he’s quoted by the BBC saying:
“I think football now if you want to win something like the Ballon d’Or or top scorer, you need to be selfish. I am not this.”
Hazard, has been branded as one of the best players in the world and a potential Ballon D’Or winner in recent years. However, Chelsea’s occasional struggles, especially this season, has a negative impact on the Belgian winning such a prestigious global honour.
It’s perhaps for this reason why Hazard has been linked with Real Madrid, a club that could certainly launch the winger’s career even further.
Hopefully Hazard’s demands of wanting a stronger squad around him at Chelsea, as reported by the BBC, can be the platform for greater things in this marvellous player’s tenure at SW6.
