Chelsea star in tears after latest injury costs him chance to impress

Aaron Anselmino has been taken off injured, another damaging mark for his reputation which is growing.

You don’t want to see tears in friendlies under any circumstances, but sadly that’s what we’re getting in Malaysia this evening.

A fully rotated team has been put out by Xabi Alonso after the Blues played another game 24 hours ago. Given our next friendly will probably see the strongest team played before the season starts, that means today is the final chance for many fringe players to impress.

Defender struck by injury at crucial moment

The last thing you want in those circumstances is to go off injured, and that’s just what’s happened to Aaron Anselmino. His carer since signing for Chelsea has been a succession of problems like this, and he looked inconsolable after being taken off here. Even if this isn’t a bad one, it’s enough to cost him a chance to impress, and may affect the club’s decision on what to do with him for the season ahead.

There seemed a chance he stuck around the first team, but his chances of getting a good loan are surely diminished by his injury record now after two affected seasons in a row.

In other news…

Romeo Lavia has been the big winner from preseason so far – yesterday he played a full 90 minutes for the first time in two years.

Marco Palestra also had a great game against Milan, and he got some special praise from his manager Xabi Alonso post game.

One strange question about today’s team is why Mike Penders isn’t involved – injury is surely the only explanation for his absence.
