Antonio Conte may well be on his way out of Stamford Bridge come the end of the season, but it doesn’t look as though Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri will be the man to replace him as Chelsea manager.
Sarri has been considered a leading candidate since the speculation over Conte’s future intensified. Many Chelsea fans had been left salivating over some of the football that his Napoli side have played this term, despite their failure to secure the Scudetto.
According to the London Evening Standard, Chelsea’s interest in appointing Sarri is genuine. However, it looks as though he’s set to put an end to speculation surrounding his future by signing a contract extension with current employers Napoli.
Napoli chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis is thought to be confident of retaining Sarri’s services following positive talks over his future. That’s despite the measly £7M release clause in his contract, with the London Evening Standard note expires at the end of May.
Chelsea will have to look elsewhere in our hunt for a new manager. The London Evening Standard report that both Luis Enrique and Massimiliano Allegri are being considered, but there’d be hurdles to clamber over in any potential pursuit of either.
