The Athletic have just done a piece which looks at Chelsea’s summer transfer window and assesses where it went well and where it didn’t go so well.
The overall assessment is that things were good – the Blues made a lot of money, improved the squad in most areas and found really promising loan moves for a lot of their young or unwanted players.

There’s also an interesting note on what will happen to two players who couldn’t find a loan escape from Chelsea late in the window Gaga Slonina’s career continues to slide, and he will apparently be effectively a training ground goalkeeper, competing with Teddy Sharman-Lowe to be third choice.
As for Kendry Paez, his River Plate loan was terminated and no alternative found. The focus is apparently on “integrating the 19 year old midfielder” and “improving his standards.” This really feels like a last chance for a wonderkid who is about to flame out entirely.
Aaron Anselmino was the other player earmarked for a move who didn’t get one – but he’s been integrated into the first team squad now, and other defenders (the likes of Benoit Badiashile) departed instead.
