Conte hints at Chelsea system change

Antonio Conte

Antonio Conte has hinted that Chelsea could change their formation for the upcoming campaign during an interview transcribed by the Mirror.

Following a disappointing 3-0 loss at the Emirates, Conte opted to change to a 3-4-3 system, and the Blues never looked back. Following the change in formation, Chelsea equalled the Premier League record for the number of consecutive wins in a single season.

Despite our success using 3-4-3 last term, Conte has suggested that he could be set to tinker with the system ahead of the upcoming campaign.

Speaking to the Mirror, Conte suggested that Fabregas can not only play in his usual central-midfield position, but could also be used as a number ten with the Blues:

The obvious question mark over this statement is that there is no ‘number ten’ role in a 3-4-3. There is, however, in a 3-5-2, which Conte experimented with on several occasions last season.

Could this be a suggestion that Conte is looking to use 3-5-2 long-term? Only he will know. But if he manages to pack Tiemoue Bakyoko, N’Golo Kante and Fabregas into one midfield, it could be devastating.

Not to mention a strike partnership consisting of Michy Batshuayi and Alvaro Morata…
