David Luiz has insisted that Chelsea are still fighting for the Premier League title, despite being 11 points behind league leaders Liverpool heading into today’s game.

Of course, that deficit can be cut to eight with a win over Leicester City in front of the Stamford Bridge faithful, but even that could prove difficult considering how consistent Jurgen Klopp’s men have been this season.

With Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City building on last season’s title win with a push to retain their crown, you could be forgiven for thinking that Chelsea don’t have a hope in hell of winning it.

David Luiz, a renown optimist, has faith. Though the Brazilian admits that getting back in the Champions League is very much on the players’ minds, he has refused to rule us out of the title race, which is great to see.

Luiz is quoted by Sky Sports saying:

“Everybody knows the Premier League is so difficult, we have to think step by step.”

“Of course the boss tries to give us the maths and to give us one direction to follow and we trying to get the points to be there and fighting for the title not just for the top four.”
