Frank Lampard will breathe a sigh of relief as Chelsea take a break from a disappointing Premier League campaign and head straight towards the FA Cup fourth-round, where they will face Luton Town for the first time since 1994.
Following the 2-0 loss to Leicester City at King Power Stadium, the Chelsea boss has once again come under scrutiny for his team selection and inflexible formation choices.
They now lie in the eighth place in the league, three points behind West Ham United. However, the UEFA Champions League and the Emirates FA Cup have been an escape route for the Blues who seem to suffer every other match in the English top flight.
Ahead of the encounter against Luton Town, Lampard spoke his mind on whether the results or performances are more disappointing and the pressure that comes with it. (Quotes picked by football.london)
“They go hand in hand. Results are what you get measured on and recently we haven’t got as many points as we want.
The pressure is fine, it comes with the territory. There are teams having problems now that we’re not, I just have to get on with the job. My concern is not the pressure on me, I understand how it goes.
The pressure needs to be positive on the players. I don’t mind taking it. The players want to get some form back.”
On Fikayo Tomori’s situation (Quotes picked by football.london):
“Fikayo is a very good player and his journey has been great. Whether he goes on loan or not, he is going to be a top player. (His move to Milan) is not completed as it stands. He remains in the same situation.”
Lampard also pointed out his growth as a manager (Quotes picked by football.london):
“It was definitely slow and sluggish. One of the things that set us out as a team last year, we had energy. It’s a part of the team that I am proud of when I put it out. When I see it not come off, I have to call it out.”
This season will see Lampard looking for success in the world’s oldest football competition, with his Premier League ambitions taking a hit.
