England have some exciting Nations League games coming up, but Cole Palmer won’t be taking part.
He has pulled out of the squad because of injury, adding to the growing list of times he’s missed Three Lions duty in the last few years. Manager Thomas Tuchel didn’t take Palmer to the World Cup, and admitted in his press conference today that it was having an effect.
“For sure. It is a missed opportunity. He misses too many opportunities. I don’t blame him for it. It is just a fact,” Tuchel said.
“He misses way too many camps with injuries, and I only want to rely on what I witness and see within in my team, and for that you have to be in camp. And if you’re not in camp, there is a next level to impress that you cannot achieve because you can only do it when you are actually on the pitch with me. So yes, it is a missed opportunity.”
Palmer must use rest to his advantage
It’s pretty honest but also diplomatic from Tuchel, who is hardly going to deny that a lack of chances to see Palmer up close have hurt the attacker’s chances of being selected.
All Cole can do now is use this period to get rested up so that he can play really well for Chelsea in the next few months and earn himself another callup in the spring.
