Timo Werner’s night against Atletico Madrid was definitely not his best in the Chelsea shirt. The German forward put in an underwhelming display as Chelsea struggled to find the back of the net until Olivier Giroud popped up with a masterful bicycle kick to give Chelsea an away goal advantage going into the second leg at the Bridge.

The 24-year-old has scored 10 goals in 34 matches for the Blues across all competitions. As Werner failed to net his eleventh goal of the season, former Manchester United player Rio Ferdinand gave his verdict on the Chelsea forward on BT Sport and DailyMail picked up some interesting quotes.

“It’s frustrating watching him, because you’ve seen clips of what he can do. Sometimes fast players have to slow the game down a bit. They’re running so fast everything seems to be a blur,” Ferdinand said.

Speaking of a chance Werner failed to capitalize on in the first half, he said:

“It’s not an easy chance, but you’d like to see him get it on target. He gets into these areas, makes the keeper make a save, fair enough, but there’s far too many times when he’s loose in possession when building up, or decision making when he gets into these areas at times.”

Werner played 87 minutes against Atletico, He completed only 23 passes throughout the match, being dispossessed 3 times when on the ball and finding two shots on target. (whoscored.com)
