Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp thinks the reason behind Chelsea not being able to replicate the performances of last season is down to a poor transfer policy, the Metro reports.
The Blues are third in the Premier League, three points ahead of Liverpool who sit outside the top 4. However, Klopp can’t get his head around the departures of two important players from last season’s Chelsea team.
As per the Metro, the German thinks things haven’t been going great in the Champions’ camp because of the sales of Diego Costa and Nemanja Matic.
The Metro quotes Klopp saying:
Chelsea play Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday in the Premier League.“They lost decisive players with Matic and Costa. With Chelsea last year, everything worked.”
Chelsea have moved on from Costa and Matic
It was a decision that baffled many people, especially Chelsea fans at the time.
However, recent form suggests that Antonio Conte shouldn’t regret the pair leaving the club.
Being a big personality on and off the pitch, the loss of Costa was going to be noticeable. Although Alvaro Morata has adequately replaced his predecessor, scoring nine goals already for Chelsea.
The presence Nemanja Matic had for us last season was also important. The Serbian was dominated by Chelsea’s midfield as Manchester United lost 1-0 at Stamford Bridge earlier this month.
So Chelsea don’t miss both players, despite the success they brought in previous seasons.
