Revealed: The reason Chelsea’s recent results are Conte’s fault

Antonio Conte

Antonio Conte can have very little complaints about the Chelsea board’s lack of investment in the squad – the Blues’ ranks in at number five in the rankings for the most expensive in the world.

The Italian has continuously used his press conferences as an opportunity to criticise the club’s board in the public eye. There have been suggestions that his comments have worn down the relationship between himself the Chelsea hierarchy, and understandably so.

After back-to-back defeats in the Premier League, the pressure continues to mount on Conte. However, he ought to look in the mirror opposed to at his squad, or the board, for the answers as to why Chelsea are struggling.

As the Daily Mail report (via CIES Football Observatory), Chelsea’s squad cost an eye-watering £524M to assemble. That’s the fifth most expensive in the world, behind only Barcelona, Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City.

Man Utd haven’t invested their cash wisely in recent years, but Barca, PSG and City are all on the verge of winning their respective league titles – and we’re in danger of falling out of the top four.

Conte has to take, at least in some part, the blame for our shortfalls.
