Chelsea’s hopes of luring Arturo Vidal to join the club have taken a blow as Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United has identified the Bayern Munich man as a key target.

That’s according to Manchester Evening News who believe Mourinho has expressed the need for the Red Devils to sign a midfielder in the summer.

In the opening days of the January transfer window, Colombian journalist Pipe Sierra reported that Chelsea had made a bid for Vidal.

The reported transfer fee was valued at £33m. However, the German giants valuated their man at £53m.

Chelsea head coach Antonio Conte worked with Vidal at Juventus. The Italian revealed his respect for the 30-year-old in December.

The Independent quotes Conte saying:

“I have a great respect for Arturo, and we spent many years in Juventus together. I would always want him to go to war with me.”

Arturo Vidal and Antonio Conte worked together during their time with Juventus.

Vidal could solve Chelsea midfield problems

There are no fresh reports that indicate the Blues are still interested in Vidal. However, the Chilean would be a force at Chelsea.

Vidal’s physical attributes are suited to the Premier League and would be the perfect partner for N’Golo Kante.
