Opinion: Chelsea must pull their fingers out and move for Lucas Digne

I was quite surprised this afternoon to see that Chelsea had still not opened ‘official talks’ with Everton to sign Lucas Digne.

I understand that enquiries have been made by Chelsea for Digne, but as of now Everton were saying they would only consider a permanent move and Chelsea want a loan deal with perhaps an option to buy. So this is why official talks have probably not started yet if the two clubs are not on the same wave-length.

It would be amazing if you guys subscribed for my project over at Si & Dan Talk Chelsea, where we are putting out so much Chelsea content including DAILY Newsletters, exclusive news, breaking news, Podcasts, interviews, inside information, and bringing in some massive guests!

But even still, if I was Chelsea I would be moving deep into those official talks now and trying to negotiate a deal to sign Digne regardless, because he wants to leave, and according to Fabrizio Romano he is likely to stay in the Premier League and will not be joining Chelsea. So surely that leaves a pretty much open run for Chelsea to sign Digne, or at least puts them in with a good chance?

So why have we not gone any further than just enquired as things stand?

Well, probably because it looks like we have been spending most of our time trying to recall Emerson Palmieri, with top sources still claiming that he remains a priority.

But Lyon have an option to buy him so the ball is in their court, so why are we wasting our time on this instead of opening official talks to sign Digne if we are interested in him? I have no clue. Maybe Chelsea feel a deal can still be done with Lyon to bring Emerson back?

Digne is a quality left wing back who is Premier League ready, experienced, and a French international, options do not come much better than this to replace a long term injury in our squad.
