Alan Shearer has been speaking on his podcast about the England squad lining up for the four international games in this three week period.
Palmer’s reason was a bit of a jumble – there was talk of an injury, but also of “load management.”
Palmer’s decision criticised by Shearer
“The one I don’t understand is Cole Palmer’s withdrawal from the squad. I get that you have to manage your body, but he’s not played a lot of football and he’s not going to play a lot of football with Chelsea not being in Europe this season,” Shearer said.
It’s pretty clear to us that Palmer isn’t happy with being left out of the World Cup squad in the summer, and rather than reacting by wanting to play more, it’s pushed him away from the national team setup. You can agree or disagree with that stance, but it’s not got much to do with how many games he will play this season.
