Predicted XI: Chelsea could use forgotten South American wonderkid in Cobham friendly

Chelsea are preparing for a friendly to get themselves up to speed for next week’s Premier League return. Here’s their potential team.

You know the three week international break is cutting deep when people are doing predicted XIs for behind closed doors friendlies.

Well, that’s just what’s happened here. Bobby Vincent has dropped his team for the game against Portsmouth this weekend.

Of course there is something faintly ridiculous about doing a predicted team for a game which isn’t even an official friendly, but still, it’s a nice way of reminding ourselves who has been at Cobham potentially earning their way into Xabi Alonso’s good books.

In goal, Teddy Sharman-Lowe is going to get the nod in a season where he’ll be on the bench (or left out of the squad) in the vast majority of games. That’s nice for him. In the back line, Aaron Anselmino has been waiting for a chance to impress since preseason, and will get one in a back line with first team regulars Wesley Fofana and Levi Colwill.

In midfield, Moises Caicedo should have recovered enough to get some minutes in his legs (45 at most, we’d suspect). Jordan Henderson can play with him there.

Meanwhile Marco Palestra is also back from injury in a similar situation. Both Pep Chavarria and Malo Gusto have played a fair bit (but not too much) so they should be good to play the bulk of the game. Gusto will likely play in attack, behind Danny Welbeck.

The final attacker spot is hard to call – could we see an academy star there? Or even Kendry Paez?

In other news…

Multiple Chelsea players won’t be in the squad because they are are on individual training programmes that run until next week.

Chelsea are moving ahead with their plans to sign Alex Scott, and today they got more details on what Bournemouth are looking for.
