Roman Abramovich is demanding answers from the Chelsea hierarchy as to why the club missed out on several top targets during the summer transfer window, report the Daily Star.
As the Daily Star report, the Premier League champions added seven new faces to their title-winning squad over the summer, but missed out on several players that the club were thought to be keen on drafting in.
One example, as the Daily Star report, is former Blue Romelu Lukaku, who was expected to return to Stamford Bridge to join up with some of his ex-teammates, but instead opted to move to Manchester United.
As well as the misery the Blues endured with the Lukaku snub, the Daily Star claim that Chelsea also agreed a fee to sign England international Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain from Arsenal, but he decided to join Liverpool.
The Daily Star claim that Everton’s Ross Barkley also changed his mind on a move to Chelsea mid-medical, although the 23-year-old has since denied those claims on his Twitter page.
Understandably, Abramovich wants answers. The Daily Star report that Marina Granovskaia and Michael Emenalo are under increase scrutiny after their failures in the transfer market. Antonio Conte is also said to be furious at the club’s transfer inefficiencies.
