Ruben Loftus-Cheek appeared to be in tears as he limped off during the first-half of Chelsea’s clash with Nottingham Forest this afternoon.
It’s rare that Loftus-Cheek is granted the opportunity to start under Maurizio Sarri, but today’s FA Cup third round fixture provided an excellent chance for him to do so.
He was involved frequently during his 40 minutes on the field of play, but it fast became clear that he wasn’t going to be able to remain on the pitch for any longer than that.
It’s unclear whether it was an old injury, perhaps to his back, which has flared up, or Loftus-Cheek has injured himself elsewhere, but he looked distraught as he hobbled off.
RLC looking absolutely heartbroken coming off, and it’s easy to understand why. These back issues are looking less and less like something he will grow out of and more and more like a chronic issue that could really affect his career. pic.twitter.com/2uHTIA2Gfm

There will be more chances for Loftus-Cheek further down the line, but it must be incredibly frustrating to have been hit with yet another setback here today.
