Jorginho? A flop? Give me a break. A new stat has emerged which reinforces just how integral he is to Maurizio Sarri’s system – outside of possession.
Much has been said about Jorginho in recent weeks, most of it negative. There have been suggestions that he’s not good enough to be the heart of Chelsea’s midfield ahead of World Cup winner N’Golo Kante. Recent losses to Tottenham and Arsenal certainly haven’t helped.
Whatever you believe, we have no doubt that you’ll be delighted that we have two such talented midfielders available for selection. We have one of the best midfields in the country on paper, they just need to learn how to operate on a field of grass.
Jorginho has been scapegoated following recent negative results, but the stats suggest that he’s doing his job perfectly well. Not only has he made more passes than any other player in the Premier League this season, but have a look at this…
Jorginho: No player has won possession in the midfield third more times than Jorginho (104) in Europe’s top five leagues this season

Pressing high is hugely important to Sarriball. Jorginho has proven himself able to do it and win the ball back, even if people argue that he can’t tackle like Kante. All he needs is to (finally) register an assist and get people off his back!
