After Real Madrid’s unprecedented public statement that they would not (and have not) pursue Enzo Fernandez this summer, most people have taken it for granted he will be staying at Chelsea.
The days since then have seen multiple articles about how Xabi Alonso will integrate him back at Chelsea. But our writer Simon Phillips has warned on his Substack that the door is not yet closed.
Enzo could still leave Chelsea this summer despite Madrid statement

Phillips’ sources say that Fernandez is “still determined” to leave Chelsea this summer, and adds that the club’s push to make it seem that he’s staying is simply to protect his valuation.
It’s a confused message in the end – Chelsea want £120m and won’t let Enzo go for less than that. “At the moment, there is no clear club who wants to or will do that,” but “even still, I think [Enzo] goes this summer.”
Right now, we think if Real don’t pay, nobody does. PSG, Man City, Arsenal or Atletico Madrid simply won’t reach the figures Chelsea want.
It’s certainly possible that Real go against their previous statement and enter the race, but as it stands we don’t see a clear path for Enzo to leave.
