In what may well be somewhat of a surprise in the biannual transfer value list of top 100 football players published by CIES Football Observatory, Chelsea have seen three of their players make the top 20.

The research group within the International Center for Sports Studies, based in Switzerland, takes into consideration a variety of factors such as age, contract stance, performances, country and club the players represent etc., in order to finalise their perceived market value.

Mason Mount, who signed a contract extension in 2019 finds himself in seventeenth place with an estimated value of €109million. He had an impressive breakthrough season following his return to the club in 2019/20 where he helped the Blues secure a Champions League place and has been a regular this season with 16 appearances across all competitions.

In eleventh place is German striker Timo Werner, whose place on the list is unsurprising. He is currently valued at €135million, a significant uplift less than seven months after his €53million move from RB Leipzig. Werner made a promising start to life at Stamford Bridge, but failed to score a single goal since finding the back of the net in a 4-1 victory against Sheffield United on November 7th.

Further one up in 10th place is fellow German compatriot, Kai Havertz, who is valued at €136million. The former Bayer Leverkusen talent was brought in for a transfer fee of €80million. His best performance came in a 6-0 drubbing of Barnsley in the Carabao Cup third round, where he bagged a brilliant hat trick. The left-footed midfielder is yet to maintain consistency in a season where he has already registered 21 appearances.

Although the German pair may not have hit the heights expected, their respective values have skyrocketed given the fact that they have signed new long-term deals that extend until 2025.

Meanwhile, Marcus Rashford, Erling Haaland, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Bruno Fernandes, and Kylian Mbappe make up the top five places.
