BBC Pundit is totally wrong about Loftus-Cheek’s summer decision

Ruben Loftus Cheek

Garth Crooks’  team of the week started as a fun feature on the BBC, but its success has seen it take on a life of its own as a platform for the pundit to go on some amusing rants about players.

Paul Pogba has been the target before, and now Crooks has turned his attention to Ruben Loftus-Cheek. Of course, he’s putting him in the team of the week after the midfielder scored the opening goal against Watford yesterday, so he’s hardly going to insult his performance.

But in the piece he insists that “it’s time [Loftus-Cheek] made some serious decisions”, citing a lack of game time. We would have agreed with him a few months ago for sure, but this seems an odd time to be giving Ruben an ultimatum.

The 23 year old has finally broken into the Chelsea first team. Yes he was rested for this weekend, but there’s no questioning he’s at the very least a regular option for Maurizio Sarri. This is the best progress he’s ever made towards finally becoming a Chelsea player, and this is when he needs to leave?

We should be rejoicing that his patience paid off, rather than moaning he didn’t play as much as we hoped before Christmas.
