Manchester City and Manchester United are on fire. With two of the best managers in the world at the helm in the shape of Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho, rival fans have every right to be afraid.
Those fears will only have intensified with both sides picking up 13 points out of a possible 15 so far this term, scoring 16 goals in the process. However, fear not Chelsea fans, here’s why we should not be too worried about the electric form of the two Manchester heavyweights.
First of all, this is actually Man City’s WORST start to a Premier League campaign since 2014/15. In 2015/16, Manuel Pellegrini’s men won all of their first five games, before losing two on the bounce. Last time around in 2016/17, Pep Guardiola started his career in England’s top tier with six consecutive victories, but then won just three of their next nine in the league.
Man United also started well last season. Mourinho’s men won their first three Premier League games and ended up finishing sixth. Though they have drafted in reinforcements in the summer that will undoubtedly help their cause – is it enough to elevate them from Champions League battlers to champions? That remains to be seen.
After six games last season, Chelsea found themselves eight points behind Man City after their electric start to their campaign. We finished 15 points ahead of them. The title is not won or lost in the first few weeks of the season, once we get Eden Hazard fit and firing, the sky really is the limit for Conte’s star-studded Blues.
