Injury FC strikes again at Chelsea, and Armando Broja joins the long list of many top Chelsea players who have had the worst luck with serious injuries in the last few seasons.

I’m absolutely devastated for Broja, who is expected to miss the whole rest of the season now at the very least after doing his ACL in a friendly match against Aston Villa on Sunday.

I think we all knew exactly what had happened and feared the worst when he went down in pure agony screaming and clutching his knee after going in for a challenge. Absolutely gutted for him and wish him a speedy recovery.

The worst case scenario means he could now be out for 12 months though, and that means Chelsea must react in January and sign a replacement. We are already short of true number 9 type strikers and options to play there even before Broja was injured, and Chelsea had already been linked with a number of new forwards. So this must accelerate those thoughts even more now and we must sign a new striker in January.

Who, might you ask? Well, that is for our scouting and recruitment department to get to work on. But will need to have a careful look around and sign a new striker who can play as a 9, in my humble opinion.

It’s terrible news and luck for Broja, who had just signed a new long-term contract at Chelsea and was battling for a regular starting spot. His progression will now stall, but he still has youth on his side and will be back.

In the meantime, Chelsea will need to put themselves first and recruit for the here and now in the January transfer market.
