Obviously if you want to run a good Podcast then you must always have good debates and use subjects that can divide and draw out opinion.
It’s the same for written content too, I guess. But there is one thing that does kind of annoy me sometimes, and that is when there is a debate over who the most important player is for a club.
Speaking on talkSPORT’s Inside Chelsea show, former Chelsea player Jason Cundy said he believes Moises Caicedo is more important than Cole Palmer.
“He’s the most important player for Chelsea. Yes, Cole Palmer… there’s no doubt he’s the most creative offensive player. He’s the difference maker, but Moises Caicedo is the heartbeat of that football club right now.”
And then in the article where I saw this quote in, they were saying that Cundy was wrong and Cole Palmer was actually more important.
The correct answer here is that they are both equally as important as each other. We need them both fully fit and on form. Why must there be a debate over who is more important? Why can’t we just say they are BOTH important?
To start with, they’re totally different players and play in totally different positions. Caicedo offers the defensive stability and high press threat, Palmer offers the creativity and goal threat. Those two traits are equally as important to this team.
Don’t get me wrong, I completely get what Cundy is saying here about Caicedo. Without him in the team, we never look as good. But it’s the same for Palmer really but just in a different way.
Debates are good for sure, and I understand why we have them. We’ve had many similar ones on our Pod many times. All part of it for sure.
But as the players say themselves, they’re both ‘The Goat’ !
