Opinion: Conor Gallagher to Brighton makes sense for all parties

I want to start this by saying that I am actually a fan of Conor Gallagher, I think he brings a lot of good qualities and has a lot about him.

He’s got a great mentality, is a battler, is a Chelsea academy lad, has energy to burn, and he’s also pretty decent at football. But for me, I just cannot see him being a Chelsea regular because he isn’t quite there.

Don’t get me wrong, if he’s happy to stay at Chelsea as a rotation player then I would happily keep him, but I think that’s what he is at a club like Chelsea, a very solid rotation option.

However, at a club like Brighton I can really see him coming into his own and being a pretty key player for them. That’s why I think the Brighton links make perfect sense for him first and foremost.

He needs to play regular football to keep his place in the England squad and continue developing, so for him I think a move away to a club like Brighton, who also have European football next season, would be great.

And on the selfish side of things, throwing Gallagher into the negotiations for Chelsea to sign Moises Caicedo would be a great move for all. Brighton apparently want him, and we want Caicedo. Gallagher needs to play regular football; everyone is a winner.

Besides, moving Gallagher rather than someone like Levi Colwill, who we know Brighton also like, would be much better for Chelsea. Colwill is the real deal and can become elite.

I do love Conor though and he gets harshly overly criticised by some. But still, I’m content if he is sold this summer especially if it sees Caicedo move the other way.

But equally happy if he stays and is happy as a rotation player.
