Even Enzo Maresca knows he is under big pressure at Chelsea – opinion

After six games in, Chelsea are 8th in the Premier League. We’ve adopted the 2-2-2 approach so far! We’ve won just 2 games, drawn 2, and lost 2 so far this season. That is FAR from good enough and there are big concerns and worries at the very top, that I can assure you of.

However, it’s early doors and there will be no panicking yet, just the normal concerns as is expected in these situations. Enzo Maresca is concerned, he knows that he has to get a Champions League place again this season because the ownership will not accept going backwards. If he doesn’t get that, he’ll be gone.

I’ve always heard that Maresca leaving, if he did leave, would be more on his side than the club side. I’ve heard for a while that he’s not been entirely happy here for many reasons, and there have been some tensions between him and those above him. More on that in this sourced article I will put out soon enough. I haven’t heard that Maresca is trying to leave anytime soon, but slumps like this will only add to his unhappiness. Chelsea would of course sack him if they don’t make the UCL places this season, that is something that I’d be pretty sure about. They cannot spend all that money to miss out on UCL again, it just cannot happen. Would they pull the plug sooner in an attempt to save the season? Absolutely they would. But again, it’s early doors, nobody is in panic mode yet.

But The BBC are right with their report written by Nizaar Kinsella. There is pressure, of course there is pressure. It’s Chelsea FC, we need to now be challenging on all fronts. And hopefully we still will even after this slump. We have to keep believing.

Kinsella reports:

‘Chelsea set Enzo Maresca the target of qualifying for the Champions League this season with the intention of reviewing that at the end of the campaign. But with just 8 points from 6 games and 2 Premier League losses in a row, Maresca will surely know the pressure is growing.’

He knows. He definitely knows. Crucial moments now going forward and Maresca and Chelsea badly need that bounce back, starting this week against Benfica and a return of club legend, Jose Mourinho. Yikes.
